EPISODE NOTES
In this Five Minute Friday episode, Bob shares why the Retired Mindset paused for a few months, is now relaunching, and what changed after months away living a “bucket list dream” and rethinking what retirement really requires. We are moving from a mindset-only view to a holistic longevity approach built around health span, daily intention, and a next chapter with purpose.
KEY TOPICS DISCUSSED:
- Relaunching the Retired Mindset as an integrated platform starting August 1
- Stepping away to live life, navigate personal changes, and find new creative direction
- The Mammoth Mountain winter and how immersion creates personal momentum
- Why retirement can shake identity when work structure disappears
- Why positive thinking fails without energy, nutrition, relationships, and purpose
- Defining holistic longevity as improving health span, not just living longer
- The daily, integrated practices that support thriving in retirement
- Where to learn the Seven Trails to Holistic Longevity and what’s coming next
Retirement can feel like freedom right up until the structure disappears and the big questions move in. Who am I without my role? What matters now? And what am I optimizing for in the years ahead? After a long pause and some major life changes, I’m back with news that reshapes everything I thought the Retired Mindset was about.
I spent the winter living a longtime dream in Mammoth Mountain, working on the mountain safety team and logging more than 100 days on skis. It was exhilarating, but it also became an unexpected lab for real change. Somewhere between ski lifts, cold mornings, community, and recovery, I saw the gap in the classic “just think positive” retirement advice. Mindset matters, but it breaks down fast if your body is worn out, your energy is low, your nutrition is off, your relationships are strained, or your sense of purpose is fading.
That’s why I’m relaunching the Retired Mindset on August 1 as a true integrated platform focused on holistic longevity and improving health span. This is about living better, not simply living longer, by aligning how we move, eat, connect, and choose purpose each day. I’ll also be back to weekly podcasting, plus our Five Minute Friday rhythm. Subscribe, share this with a friend planning their next chapter, and leave a review so more people can build a retirement where soul meets body.

The Retired Mindset Five Minute Friday. Short episodes in five minutes or less.
Bob 0:11
Hey everybody, Bobby P here, and welcome back to a new episode of the Retired Mindset Five Minute Friday. Your dose of inspiration as you head into the weekend.
Bob 0:21
Well, I’m here today with some exciting news. I’m thrilled about this, and we are relaunching the Retired Mindset. And this time not just as a podcast, but as a premiere integrated platform. And I’m going to be telling you more about that here in just a minute. And yes, I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted a new episode. So if you’ve been wondering where the heck have I been for the last few months, well, the short answer is I’ve been out living life and developing some new creative inspirations for the retired mindset.
Bob 0:50
So I made an intentional decision to pause for a few months while I went through some personal life changes and pursued a true bucketless dream. But here I am today, podcasting from beautiful Santa Monica, California. You know, life has a way of changing us, sometimes gradually, sometimes all at once. This last fall, I made a big decision to move to Mammoth Mountain full-time for the winter ski season. I’ve always wanted to do it since wanting a gap year after I finished high school and going to college. But I was working as part of the mountain safety team on Mammoth Mountain and logged more than 100 days on skis. And I’m not going to lie, this kind of became all-encompassing. Even saying that out loud, though, 100 days of skiing still makes me smile. For a lifelong skier and lover of mountain life, it was extraordinary.
Bob 1:43
But it became much more than skiing; it became an immersion in momentum, personal momentum, not just where soul meets body, but in the direction of the retired mindset, along with my own vitality, community, purpose, nutrition, and spirituality. And somewhere in all of that, on countless ski lifts and runs, I began rethinking the retired mindset and brainstorming a new platform altogether. When I first launched the retired mindset, my idea was based on the podcasts with the focus on the psychological transition into retirement. Because retirement can really mess with your head. I mean, I know, I’ve been through it. And for many of us, our identity has been tied to our career, productivity, or being needed by peers or employees. Then one day when we retire, that structure changes. The question becomes, who am I now? What matters to me now? And what am I optimizing for in the rest of my life?
Bob 2:42
Now, those questions still matter, but through my experience during this mammoth chapter and pushing through the challenges of some personal life changes, I’ve realized something truly important. And that is that mindset alone isn’t enough. You can have all the positive thinking in the world. But if your body is breaking down, your energy is depleted, your nutrition is poor, your relationships are suffering, or your sense of purpose is fading, well then something is definitely missing. That realization along the way over the past six months or so led to a major evolution of the retired mindset.
Bob 3:22
So I am thrilled and excited to announce that I am relaunching The Retired Mindset effective August 1st. It will be a true integrated platform focused on holistic longevity, helping people approaching or already in retirement to optimize their next chapter. And by longevity, I don’t simply mean living longer. This is all about living better to improve your health span, not just extending life by years, but having more years of truly living your best life. How do we thrive, not just survive, in the next chapter of life?
Bob 3:57
That’s the new mission of the retired mindset. Because I don’t just want to talk about this. I want to help people live it and get through it. Maybe that’s the greatest lesson Mammoth gave me. Longevity and health span aren’t theoretical. It’s daily, it’s intentional. And it’s integrated with how we move, how we eat, the energy we bring every day, our relationships and connections, and what gives us purpose on a daily basis. And being in touch with something larger than ourselves.Bob 4:27
So today I’m inviting you to stay curious. Visit the Retired Mindset website at theretiredmindset.com to learn about what I call the seven trails to holistic longevity. This new platform exists for people who know they still have life left to live, people who refuse to fade quietly, people who believe in the next chapter, and that it can be one of the most important and most meaningful yet. That means more to me now than ever before, because true longevity is holistic and integrated along these seven trails. Retirement isn’t the end of your story. It may be the beginning of your most intentional chapter.
Bob 5:12
Yes, I still will be podcasting weekly again and have a lineup of full episodes coming soon, also on tap beginning next week. So stay tuned for those. And of course, I’ll still see you solo on Fridays, including next Friday, for another episode of Five Minute Friday. Hey everybody, have a great weekend. Enjoy this amazing summer and all your days out here in the sun. And remember, in retirement, soul meets body. Thanks for joining me today.
